EVERYTHING ELECTRIC SINGLE LAUNCH PARTY!
I’ll be releasing my new single with a big fat party.
It goes like this…
STEPHEN HUDSON & THE FIAT PANDAS
That’s me plus a rare appearance from my country-garage band The Fiat Pandas. We’ve added sex and murder to our usual lyrical themes of dog-walking and grandparents.

BEAT THE RADAR
Energetic, fun, brilliant alt/indie band from Manchester. Part of their
tour promoting their new album on Akoustic Anarky.

IVAN CAMPO
Preston’s best experimental folk-pop band. Plowing a similar melodic
field of dreams to Gruff Rhys, the Earlies and the Beta Band.

HARVEY LORD
A rare solo appearance from TEOHL’s frontman. He’s recently started
writing and releasing a new song every full moon, the first
of which was a total belter. Folky and unpredictable like the best bits
of Kurt Vile and Syd Barrett.

The folk from Lancaster’s awesome, much-missed indie disco
HOOTING & HOWLING will be throwing an after-party with some fantastic
bottom-shaking music.
CDs will be available to buy throughout the night. Starts at 8pm. £4 entry.
This is definitely worth a watch! Released the 5th December on Too Pure Singles Club is the song “Allergies” from The Lovely Egg’s featuring Gruff Rhys as Cosmic Death.

As I sit in my temporary home in Brisbane, finding myself with some time on my hands for the first time in a long time, I decide to take a look back on all the music sent to me back when I was in Lancaster. A good friend Tommie sent me a demo of his new London based band ‘Bathing Blonds’. A real lovely bunch of people who I had the pleasure of playing to on tour with The Thyme Machine back in February 2011 when they let us play at their house party!
The demo starts out with a song with a spin on the title of one of my favourite films. Entitled “Logan’s Runny Nose” the initial listen gives you the impression that these guys have a very clear idea of what they are doing. Lifts of organ and time change breaks really strike a chord with my taste. A playful sound that digs deep.
“Launderette Love” is driven with a melodic organ line which drops into a great verse melody. A very sophisticated chord sequence lies underneath the whole track. We then move onto “Young Age” which unfolds the use of the synthesizer, with bends, squeaks and all the whistles. More great time changes follow with the bass usually driving the outfit.
I really like this and feel it commands you to listen again and again. If you have a tendency to avoid low fidelity recorded sounds then be aware, but if you can see through this then you will find a huge diamond in the rough.

STEALING SHEEP (Liverpool)
Lo-fi, DIY pop in the shape of noisily drenched old time vocals, brittle surfy guitars and pounding rhythms. Since forming in 2010, they have toured the UK and Europe opening for bands such as Best Coast, TuneYards and Emmy the Great, cut a record at Abbey Road Studios, received frequent airplay from BBC2’s Steve Lamacq, Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson, Rob Da Bank, 6music and XFM, and signed to one of the UKs best labels Heavenly Records (Fionn Regan, Doves).
Phew!
“A sound mixture, difficult to resist” Rolling stone magazine

STEPHEN HUDSON & THE FIAT PANDAS (Lancaster)
Songs about teenage boys’ murderous fantasies over their parents, dog-walking, Heat magazine, cycling to Morecambe to bury yourself on the beach, sex with a teacher called Mrs Steklenberg… Stephen Hudson’s vivid imagination and lyrics are a perfect match to the ragged and fragile country-garage of his band, the Fiat Pandas. After a triumphant mini-tour of Northern England and Scotland in September this promises to be a belter.
“A genuinely gifted talent” Songs From Under the Floorboards

ALL WE ARE (LIVERPOOL)
Hotly tipped by Tom Waits, this alt-pop/psychedelic folk trio spin a kaleidoscopic sound full of three part harmonies, kettle-whistling guitar and hypnotic drums. Recording their second EP in a Norwegian cabin, AWA promise to provide a magic Christmassy feel to the night.

THE BEAR AROUND YOUR NECK (Lancaster)
The project of singer/performer Nat Scott, BAYN is scruffy and impassioned indie folk. His first EP ‘At Lake Bury Me’ was an early release on Barnbox, get there early so you don’t miss him!

I checked my emails this morning to find I had received a message from across the pond. From Andy Ranallo, a magnificent songwriter and musician I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with when he was visiting the UK a few years ago.
His current venture, US Minneapolis based band ‘Nallo’ have just released, on a free download, their new single “Submarines/Moth”.
Edgy, melody-driven sounds and off-kilt lyrics that move away from the usual themes, definitely renders a second listen. “Submarines”, clocking in at exactly 2 minutes, gives you the feeling of “Ohh that was great, let’s play it again!”. The lyrical short and sharp tale of being a “Moth” then kicks in at under 2 minutes and your taste buds start twitching for more.
If Lo-Fi, catchy psychedelic music is what you like the you must check out ‘Nallo’!

Just a reminder to everyone to check out Stephen Hudson. Him and his band, The Fiat Pandas are playing at The Yorkshire House on the 13th December in Lancaster. His music is readily available from his soundcloud.
It is with our pleasure to let you know about the latest Barnbox release.
On the 10th December 2011 will be the release of “In The Echoshop”, a 15 track worldwide digital release featuring demos, studio sessions and album tracks chosen and released by Hows My Pop. This is a celebration of the time the band spent together between the years 2005 to 2009. The majority of the record is built from demos which have been currently unreleased apart from very short runs from the first every shows the band played.
This will be exciting for anyone who saw the band in the first days and will be a refreshing reminder of what the band was about.
The track listing includes the songs Laura, Laura / Middle Earth / She’s Not Old Enough To Drink / Boxercise… etc.
It will be available on Spotify for free listening too!
